The Farm

The raw milk used to produce Kiaora Hipi Pure Sheep Whole Milk Powder is sourced from outdoor pastoral based farms within the Waikato Region of the North Island of New Zealand.

Farm Assurances

New Zealand has regulations in place to ensure the health and welfare of the animals and to maintain quality and safety of milk.

Farms are required to operate under independently verified Risk Management Plan’s (RMP) approved by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). Independent, third-party audits check for compliance on a regular basis.

The raw milk collected on farm is regulated under legislation and farm controls include:

  • Milk is cooled immediately, as regulated by NZ Dairy Standards, with records kept of temperature and volumes.
  • Milk is kept chilled awaiting collection with continual monitoring of the temperature of the stored milk.
  • Independently analysing the raw milk for a range of microbial, physical and chemical tests against regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring transport operators operate under a verified RMP.
  • Milk is not accepted by the processing factory if it does not meet required specifications.

  • Samples of milk powder are tested to against specifications using both in-house (factory) and external accredited laboratories to ensure compliance.
  • Once all laboratory tests are completed and passed, New Zealand's Ministry for Primary Industries issues a health certificate, making it eligible for export.
